I SPY: Pattern Play with Polka Dots

Pattern Play Polka Dots Wedding Trends

I was recently asked by Bridal Guide to create a post about all things pattern – as soon as I committed to the task, I knew it was going to be instant love. There’s gingham, stripes, chevron but there’s also many more patterns that I never even considered for wedding design. The part that interests me the most is knowing how to incorporate other patterns into the design mix since interior design is my 1st love, weddings my 2nd. With creative series circulating bridal land like this game board series from Burnetts Boards and eco-friendly wedding ideas from Fab You Bliss, I am excited to start my own series about Pattern – First up, dashing polka-dots!

The best part about incorporating a particular theme, color palette or in this case, pattern into your design is that you can start with your bridal party. Try pairing polka-dotted bridesmaids with other girds donning lace dresses, add in a neutral for one or two of your leading ladies and you can join in on the hottest trend of mismatched dresses. Don’t forget about your groom or his men, everything from polka-dotted bow ties to handkerchiefs can pull the look together without looking like a 5 year old planned your event!

This is where I sigh and make awful screeching noises because I can become a little too excited with the details of weddings. Polka-dotted invites or RSVP cards are a wonderful way to introduce guests to your new-found love of pattern – your invites always set the tone for what is to come and truthfully, who wouldn’t be enamored with these darling invites?

Let’s just say that tablescapes are without a doubt my favorite design element in a wedding, it’s what your guests will spend the most time staring at and there are so many details (see below for ideas!) on what to include to make your table pop but let’s start with the basic elements – tablecloths!

Don’t forget to mind your manners and thank your guests for joining you in celebrating your nuptials. Try incorporating your love of pattern into welcome bags for out-of-town guests filled with treats to recover from jet-lag or favors at the end of the night. And what better way to say thank you, than with polka-dotted kraft paper? Seriously, I know.

Wedding signage is a major trend at the moment, there are so many ways to include them – from signage that doubles as wedding programs to letting your guests know that you’re all family, no reason to choose a side, the options are limitless. And now that you have a particular pattern to play into, I am crushing on the adorable polka-dotted sign below!

In interior design, it’s always in vogue to mix patterns and layer texture; infusing those ideas into your wedding aesthetic is a guaranteed way to achieve a stylish day. Below are some additional patterns that would mix well with polka-dots. Always remember, less is more and choose what makes you truly happy over what is currently trending.
