When I first started this blog I said “I hated trends” a million times and almost 200 posts published later, I have embraced the dark side: Trends. In fact, it’s something I actually adore; taking all my loves and pairing it with the hottest color palette and perfectly styled concepts. When I was first engaged in 2007, wedding blogs had just begun and I sincerely thought the “barnyard chic” phase would fade away but what I thought was a trend turned out to be a complete style aesthetic. And while that style wasn’t exactly winning my heart over, there are certain elements that I have taken away that have forever made me re-think trends in whole. I will never marry in a barn, I don’t want to sit on hay and I believe glamping is perfectly acceptable. But I do love how personalized “barnyard chic” is, that there is more soul involved in those weddings than the over-the-top, amazingly luxe and opulent ballroom creations that I love as well. There is a sincere quality to them and enough vintage elements to leave me weak in the knees. Yes, trends: I think I love you.
Okay, my obsession with succulents is starting to reach crazy new heights. I can’t grow anything except my hair (ha!) and the thought of something so natural and lovely as a wedding favor can literally make me squeal like a chubby pre-school kid that just discovered chocolate milk exists at school, I told you it was reaching crazy new heights!
Some call it a trend, most label it a lifestyle. No matter how you view this topic, you’re doing Mother Nature & your karma a “favor“. And Eco comes with chic ideas too! Let your guests plant a tree sapling and watch “love grow”, Or gift them seeds to grow an herb garden.
Not everything has to cost a fortune when it comes to your wedding (I totally realize that just sounded like a lie…) and you don’t have to find your inner Martha Stewart diva and try to craft every little gem at your wedding. But your favors? Yep, even this DIY-challenged future Mrs who really wants to play with a hot-glue gun thinks she could attempt this completely steal-worthy DIY from Green Wedding Shoes is a must try!
I love food, perhaps a bit too much but when there is yummy treats at a wedding, this favor is sure to please! I am loving this glass bottle of coke and midnight snack combo (include a cookie, brownie, or a family recipe) Don’t forget some guests may have allergies to nuts, chocolate or other dairy-related products so offering a variety at a table for each guest to choose is a thoughtful idea!
It is absolutely no surprise when I say I love all shutter-bug ideas, it leaves me weak in the knees. This can double-duty as a way to keep your guests entertained but it’s also a great keepsake for them to take home to remember how H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S and A-M-A-Z-I-N-G your wedding was. Your photographer can also scoop up all the images and give to an assistant (or family friend to help lower costs) and place them in cards for when the guests depart.
Find your Seat.
Most brides have limited budgets but don’t want to skimp on style, the best idea is to have a chic option for both an escort card and a favor combined together.
Yes, favors can be thoughtful. I can’t remember where I found this idea and I totally wish I could say that I was the mastermind behind it (don’t worry… you can still believe I am) but if your venue offers valet parking you can tip the drivers a little extra and have them place a tag on each rear view mirror that says “Thank you for Celebrating with Us”, they can also leave a CD in the car with all your favorite tunes to keep them in the festive mood while they drive home!
